Blockchain payments are money movement over blockchain networks. This movement can be receiving stablecoins that settle in USD (off-ramp), paying out stablecoins from a USD balance (on-ramp) or paying out in foreign currency from a USD balance over blockchain rails (FX payout).    Thus the three flows are:
  1. On-ramp: USD → stablecoins. A program, or its end customer, turns dollars in their own Lead account into stablecoin sent out to a wallet. The money is leaving the account over blockchain rails.
  2. Off-ramp: stablecoins → USD. A program, or its end customer, turns incoming stablecoin into dollars in their own Lead account. The money is coming into the account over blockchain rails.
  3. FX Payout: USD → stablecoins → FX.  A program, or its end customer, turns dollars in their own Lead account into a foreign currency, moving over blockchain rails.
Blockchain payments use the same API structure as other Lead payment rails, allowing you to treat stablecoins and blockchains as another payment option alongside wires, ACH, and instant payments. Our API abstracts blockchain complexity away, so you initiate transfers without managing wallets, on-chain transactions, or blockchain network complexity.

When to use it?

Use the blockchain_payments endpoint to initiate outbound payments, starting from USD and ending in stablecoins or foreign currency.  Use the blockchain_deposit_address to create an inbound-only receiving address and bind it to an account number. This address accepts stablecoins and automatically initiates a blockchain_payment to auto-offramp USD to its bound account number.
