# Wire Statuses

> Wire statuses for incoming and outgoing wires, what each one means, and how a wire moves between them.

Lead sets every wire status. The one status you influence is cancellation: `POST /v2/wires/{wire_id}/cancel` on an eligible outgoing wire moves it to `cancel_pending`.

Incoming and outgoing wires have different lifecycles.

## Incoming wires

| `posted` | Funds have been credited to the account. |
| `rejected` | Incoming wire was rejected. See the `rejection` object for details. |

Both are terminal. An incoming wire surfaces to you already in one of them.

## Outgoing wires

| `created` | Wire object has been created and is pending processing. | Yes |
| `under_review` | Wire has been flagged for manual review by Lead. | Yes |
| `scheduled` | Wire is scheduled to be sent. | Yes |
| `processing` | Wire is being submitted to Fedwire. | No |
| `posted` | Wire has been sent over Fedwire. | No |
| `rejected` | Wire was rejected. See the `rejection` object for details. | No |
| `cancel_pending` | A cancellation has been requested and is pending confirmation. | No |
| `canceled` | Wire was successfully canceled. | No |

`posted`, `rejected` and `canceled` are terminal.

## Transitions

A wire reaches `cancel_pending` only from `created`, `scheduled` or `under_review` — the three statuses marked cancellable above. Once a wire is `processing` it cannot be canceled.
