# Instant Payments at Lead

> Send and receive Instant Payments via FedNow and RTP

<Warning>
  RTP support is coming to the Instant Payments API in November 2026. Existing integrations will send and receive over both FedNow and RTP with no code changes. Lead will select the rail for each payment behind the scenes and expose it in a new `payment_rail` field. Our non-breaking update will be announced one month prior to launch.
</Warning>

Lead offers Instant Payments as a single interface over two underlying rails: FedNow and RTP. FedNow and RTP (Real-Time Payments) are operated by the Federal Reserve and The Clearing House, respectively. Both are U.S. domestic, credit-push, 24/7/365 networks that support payments up to \$10 million per transaction that settle in seconds. Receivers on both networks must make funds available to the creditor immediately. Neither network supports payment reversals. Instead, return requests are used to attempt recovery of payments sent erroneously.
