# The Core Balance Object

> Field-level reference for the Core Balance object, including the amounts definitions and formulas, overdraft, and interest.

A core balance is a balance position within a core account. It is where the money actually sits. Read them with `GET /v2/core_balances` and `GET /v2/core_balances/{id}`.

## Fields

| Field | Type | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `id` | string | Unique identifier, prefixed `core_balance_`. |
| `core_account_id` | string | The parent core account. |
| `name` | string | Human-readable name set by Lead. |
| `status` | enum | `active`, `inactive`, or `closed`. Lead managed. See [Core Balance Statuses](/products/core-balance/statuses). |
| `currency_code` | string | ISO 4217. |
| `amounts` | object | The balance breakdown. See [The amounts block](#the-amounts-block). |
| `overdraft` | object | Overdraft facility on this balance. See [The overdraft block](#the-overdraft-block). |
| `interest` | object | Interest position. See [The interest block](#the-interest-block). |
| `created_at`, `updated_at` | timestamp | RFC 3339, UTC. |

All amounts are signed integers in minor units. `1500` is \$15.00.

## The amounts block

Five figures, two of them derived.

| Field | Description |
| :- | :- |
| `posted` | Everything that has fully posted to the ledger. This is the closing balance figure you see in the Daily Balance report. |
| `holds` | Funds that are reserved for pending transactions. |
| `sweeps` | Funds sitting in linked sweep balances (for example IntraFi) that can be drawn back on demand. |
| `cash_available` | Actual cash net of holds. `posted` minus `holds`. |
| `spendable` | What you can move right now. `cash_available` plus `overdraft.unused` plus `sweeps`. |

<Warning>
`spendable` may include overdraft capacity. A balance with `cash_available` of zero can still show a positive `spendable` if the account has an overdraft limit. Do not present `spendable` as cash on hand.
</Warning>

## The overdraft block

| Field | Description |
| :- | :- |
| `limit` | The maximum overdraft facility on this balance. Zero if none. |
| `used` | Overdraft currently drawn. |
| `unused` | Remaining capacity. `limit` minus `used`. This is the portion that flows into `spendable`. |

## The interest block

| Field | Description |
| :- | :- |
| `rate` | Annualized rate as a decimal string with six places, for example `"1.000000"`. |
| `accrued` | Interest accrued but not yet posted, in minor units. |

## List and retrieve

`GET /v2/core_balances` returns every core balance visible to your program. Filters:

* `core_account_id`. Balances under one core account.
* `limit`, `starting_after`, `ending_before`. Cursor pagination. Cursors are core balance IDs.

`GET /v2/core_balances/{id}` returns one balance. `404` if the ID does not exist or belongs to another program.

Each request reads Lead's core directly, so the figures reflect the ledger at the time of the request.
