# Originators: Managing ACH Origination Parameters

> Create and manage ACH origination parameters.

<Info>
  If you only originate ACH from a single ACH Company ID, you will **not** need to create Originators.<br /><br />If you require the ability to originate ACH from multiple ACH Company IDs, please work with your implementations manager to request access and approval to use the Originator API.
</Info>

An Originator defines required parameters that allow authorized partners to initiate ACH transactions through Lead's FedACH connection. Originators are tied to a specific Account and Entity, and define the permissions, SEC codes, and transaction limits governing their ACH activity.

## How an Originator Is Used

An Originator takes effect through the Account Numbers that send ACH. Once your Originator is [`active`](/products/ach/originator-statuses), set `ach_controls.originator_id` on each sending Account Number (see [Payment Controls](/products/account-number/controls)). Outgoing entries from those Account Numbers then carry that Originator's `company_id` and `company_name` in the ACH batch header, subject to its `allowed_sec_codes` and limits. See [Sending ACH](/products/ach/sending-ach) for the full origination flow.
